Got a call from Gattis Hodges asking me if I knew doctor Greg Nelson's cell phone. Gattis is the play by play voice of Hertford County. Friday night their star quarterback Antonio Vaughn was injured while Hertford County played at First Flight in Kitty Hawk. He has a hairline fracture in his leg.
Scott Privette the coach at Hertford County had taken Vaughn after they arrived back from Kitty Hawk Friday night to a doctor in Franklin Virginia. Saturday morning during a conversation with Raymond Cobb, Raymond recommended they send him to Greg Nelson. Scott knowing I lived up here and may have Doctor Nelson's cell got Gattis to call me. Being in Raleigh I couldn't help them.
Then it occurred to me to call Bernie Capps. Within seconds of telling Bernie their plight Bernie tells me to call Gattis and give him his phone number that he would handle it. Antonio Vaughn has an appointment with Doctor Nelson Monday.
Even though we are are foes on the football field, when their is a need everyone responded to help.
Rocky Mount and Nash County are very lucky to have the services Of Bernie Capps. This also tells you how the athletic community of this area regards Dr. Greg Nelson.
Thank God that we have them.
Faith Christian has now played Greenfield Academy three times this year in soccer and all three times Faith has lost including yesterday. However The Patriots took it to over time and they lost 4-3 in the shootout to give Greenfield the Independent school state title.
Try outs start tomorrow at Rocky Mount for winter sports. Mike Gainey told me the other night he expects fifty to try out for basketball.
