Northern Advances

Northern Nash  the number one seed from the Big East played the first two innings like the top seed they are.  They scored four in the first and three in the second to put themselves in position to put this one away in five innings.

South Brunswick played the first two like the 2-20 team they were. They threw away a ground ball to short that cleared the bases.  The pitchers hit three batters in the first an another in the second.  Walked  another three.  Northern had four hits to boot.

The one thing South Brunswick could do is hit the ball as they would manage 12 hits on the night and out hit Northern by three.  Derrick Carter pitched the first three innings allowing three runs on six hits. He gave way to Chad Haggerty in the fourth and Tyler Barrett pitched the final three innings as Northern  had a 12-3 lead in the fourth but never could  put SB away and advance with  13-6 win.

Derrick Carter went 2-2 with two RBI.  Tyler Barrett collects two hits  with an RBI. Chad Haggerty reach base twice with hits  and two RBI.  Whit Casper, Alex Cook, Dwight Daniels, were responsible for Northern's nine hits.

It has turned out to be a Big Night for the Big East as both Hunt and Fike are winners. Hunt playing at home beat Northwood 7-3 and will play Southern Wayne who shut out Jacksonville 1-0.
Fike traveled to Eastern Wayne and the number three seed won 9-3 to give the Big East a 3-0 record
As all three will play in round two.

Northern will have to wait until Wednesday night to find out their next game.  West Craven does not meet Southern Lee until 7pm Wednesday.   This will give Leonard Allen a chance to travel to Vanceboro after practice to get a look at who they will play.  Fike waits on Topsoil who is the number one seed in this bracket so Fike is on the road again heading to the beach.

So if the opening night has told us any thing Nash Central and Rocky Mount who were just that close to making the playoffs that the Big East must be a pretty good baseball league.
