Gryphons Sweep

The Lady Gryphons have gone with a seven player rotation most of the season. Marquita Hines starting guard remains on the shelve with a wrist injury. Tonight the main six turned the game over the the rest of the team by early third quarter and Lady Gryphons advance to round two with a 51-29 victory over Jacksonville. During the third quarter the score was 27-7 so as you can see with the bench in the game Jacksonville was able to play even in the second half.

The Lady Gryphons will play home Wednesday night against Triton High of Dunn a 57-34 victor over South Brunswick. Triton is the #2 seed from the Eastern Carolina and will bring a 17-9 record to Rocky Mount. Looking at a possible Friday night game should the Ladies get a victory over Triton the Sectional final match up would be between the winner of Hertford Co and South Central winner and that game would be in Rocky Mount.

The Lady Gryphons have played both of those teams this year beating Hertford County in two rather close games while losing both of the South Central games by 59-52 and 59-55.

There is no problem for the Gryphon boys when it comes to depth. Currituck with a 2-21 record gave Rocky Mount little resistance tonight as Mike Gainey play all fifteen players all game long and 13 players scored in the first half. Even in the fourth quarter when mostly third teamers trickle in a few second teamers and the Gryphons out scored Currituck in the fourth quarter.

Mercy for the long ride home for Currituck as Rocky Mount fails to break a sweat winning 91-43.
What made the ride home so long for Currituck is their girls played at Northern Nash and they all rode the same bus and Northern Rocked Currituck girls 79-29 so their two teams rode 150 miles to lose by a combined 170-72.

Rocky Mount boys will be on the road Wednesday at they will travel to Southern Wayne the #1 seed from the Eastern Carolina conference a 67-58 winner over D H Conley.

Girls are at home at 7.00pm Wednesday and boys travel to Dudley.

The rest of the conference went by seeding all the teams who had home games won and all that were on the road lost. Hunt the #1 boys seed beat Jacksonville 62-49 while Nash Central lost at West Craven 78-58 and Northern lost a close one 69-65 at Southern Lee.

Northern Nash Girls wait for the winner of the C B Aycock/West Carteret winner. If Aycock wins Northern travels there Wednesday night. Fike lost at Havelock 74-67 and at this writing we have no Hunt score.

Tops seeds won while the lower seeds all lost which leaves Rocky Mount and Hunt still playing for the boys and Rocky Mount and Northern Nash Still alive for the girls.
