Full House Sees Gryphon Sweep

You know when they stop selling tickets at half time of the girls game that everyone in the packed house knows something big could happen. Rocky Mount and Nash Central boys were squaring off with the winner the early lead in the race for a regular season championship.

If you thought you were there to see a game then you got you monies worth tonight as the game went to overtime before Donte Battle took charge for the Gryphons the last minute of overtime to lead Rocky Mount to a 66-61 overtime win.  This is two victories over Nash Central this year and both 66-61 scores.

Rocky Mount out rebounded the Bulldogs 53-27 and 17 of those rebounds belonged to Terrill Hilliard as he has 14 offensive but converted only one of those for points. The turnovers were relatively even 16 for the Bulldogs and 14 for RM.  Rocky Mount could have put the game away at the foul line but at one point had only one for eleven.  The fourth quarter and overtime they made 9 of 11 and one of the misses could have won in regulation.

Nash Central trio of Jalen Hendricks 20 points , Nate Pittman 14 and Philip Jones 14 did all they could to bring home a Bulldog victory.  Donte Battle 16 points  and 10 rebounds lead Rocky Mount. Terrill Hilliard 12, Levon Brutus 12 and all of his came in the second half  as he did not play in the first half.  Hilliard sat out the third quarter with three fouls at the half and Battle joined him early in the third quarter.

During that stretch subs play a big roll keeping Rocky Mount close at the end of the third quarter after having trailed by six at the half.  Amhad Harrell had four rebounds in the third  and Austin Warner two blocks and a rebound and the Gryphons trailed by two when Hilliard and Battle returned for the fourth quarter.

Rocky Mount survives 66-61 over Nash Central.

The Lady Gryphons survived foul trouble and forced the Lady Bulldogs into 33 turnovers while they committed only 19.  That 14 difference is a big factor in Rocky Mount 59-43 victory over Nash Central.

Niya Styles did her best to keep the Bulldogs close as she score 15 of Nash Central's 21 first half points.  Charise Speight made three threes in the third quarter to cut the Gryphon lead to 37-35 with less than two minutes to play in the third quarter. Rocky Mount outscored Nash Central the last ten minutes 22 -8.

Alexus Cooper returning to her old school lead the fourth quarter charge as she finished the night with 14 points, J'Kyra Brown added 18 and Tia Hudgins pitched in 14.  Carmen Richardson added 10 for the Gryphons.  Styles finished the game with 20 points but score but five in the second half  all at the foul line.  Timyra Staton added nine rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs.

Nash Central has played the top two teams this week in the Big East and have two double digit losses.  Exams Start Tuesday in Nash County so there is only one game next week and that is next Friday at Hunt for the Gryphon  boys depending on what Hunt did tonight that could be for first place.
