There are several factors that go into making teams be who they become. I believe that high school football is 80% coaching and 15% talent and 5% luck. This might be part of the luck factor but injuries play major roles in what teams become. So you might want to turn around the 15% luck and 5% talent
During their six games of non-conference action Southern Nash was a very average 3-3. Rightly so they did play a rather tough schedule and schedules can be made tougher when you don't always have your best players in the line up. I heard a lot of when we get healthy lookout coming from the southern part of the County.
I think those folks knew what they were talking about as with a healthy team the Firebirds put 46 on Tarboro, 42 on Fike and 42 on Northern Nash.. They surely are showing everybody healthy we are as good as anybody. If that be the case then the Firebirds need to do every thing they can to keep their team healthy.
Rocky Mount maybe showed themselves when they play under control (penalties) they are good enough to play with anybody in this league. They had a 15 yard face mask but when making tackles sometimes your hands grab for anything you can. Against Hunt they reduced the penalty yardage in half. They did have an aiding the runner called but you can call that like holding almost on every play. Several games this year the Gryphons had penalties of self destruction. Didn't have to have a running your mouth 15 yard personal foul. best way to run you mouth is put points on the board or stop the other side. Let the scoreboard do the talking. It worked Friday against Hunt.
Only two weeks into the season and Fike and Hunt find themselves in the middle of the pack. All of a sudden Fike defense has given up 68 points in the first two conference games and yes they can score when they have the ball. Giving up 68 and scoring 81 still adds up to a 1-1 record. Hunt must be in shock today after losing at Home in a conference game. They have now lost twice at home this year as Northeastern took them out 28-0 earlier this year.
How tough is the Big East in football? Northern Nash is 0-2. I wonder if maybe the Knights had a let down after playing so well at Hunt in Randy Raper's return there last week. In this league you had better be ready to buckle your chin strap tight every play and every game. The Nash Central losing streak has reached 21. Their 26 points is the second most points they have scored in this streak. They scored 36 in a 38-36 lost to Southern Nash the last game of the 2012 season which was the second lost in this losing streak.
