Gryphons Slam Falcons

What could be their best half of basketball this year the Rocky Mount Gryphons trailing 45-41 at the half came out of the locker room running and take down The Falcons of South Central 82-67.

Donte Battle score eight points and had five rebounds the first five minutes of the third quarter and then watched Exzavier Cooper score 13 of his 16 in the second half along with Tecoby Hines who scored all 11 of his in the second half. Down the stretch the Gryphons pulled away as Tabias Hilliard made eight straight free throws a welcome sight for a team that struggles at the line.

Rocky Mount dominated the boards winning the rebound battle 51-32. Donte Battle had 12 leading the way. Tecoby Hines had nine rebounds and almost joined Battle with a double double. Battle had 12 points /12 rebounds while Hines was 11/9 on the night. Exzavier Battle had a 16/7.

Rocky Mount is now 7-2 on the season.

The girls lined up for the opening tip and all five Falcon players were taller at each position than the Gryphons. This game was nip and tuck affair South Central was able to wear down the Lady Gryphons and keep their record undefeated as they beat Rocky Mount 59-52.

Timisha Walker and J'Kyra Brown did all they could scoring 21 and 18. Tia Hudgins slowed by a sore ankle had seven so the three inside player for the Lady Gryphons score 46 of the 52 points.

The Lady Gryphons had a chance down 52-50, they sent the Falcons to the foul line where they were only two of five but all three misses the Falcons got and converted back at the foul line. Pam Gainey went with six players for all but about thirty seconds just before the half . By games end there wasn't any jump left in the legs of the Lady Gryphons.

Rocky Mount falls to 7-2 while South Central remains undefeated at 6-0.
