If Jason Battle has been able to do any thing different in his first four games as the Gryphons football coach that would be that his Gryphons have been able to come from behind in the fourth quarter and win. Once again tonight Rocky Mount scores late with 1:55 to go to win a thrilling 33-24 football game over SouthWest Edgecombe. The Gryphons were able to add a clinching score with .55 seconds to play after they tried to squib kick on the kick off and fell on the ball.
This game turns out to be a game of keep away as Rocky Mount chewed up the clock while SWE scored on three drives that took about two minutes on each drive. SWE had three first half drives scoring twice while Rocky Mount scored on two time consuming drives were stopped inside the twenty on a drive and were on the twenty when the half ended.
The second half each team had the ball four times and Rocky Mount scored three times while SWE scored but once, fumble once and failed on fourth down late in the game. SWE lost a fumble failing to field the kickoff after Rocky Mount had taken the lead.
This was truly a power against speed game but for the second week in a row Rocky Mount wins the fourth quarter and their record jumps to 4-0. SWE drops to 1-3 and now their three losses have come at the hands of Hunt 4-0, Southern Nash 4-0.
There was no doubt Roanoke Rapids had their hands full at Southern Nash as the Firebirds had a 42-0 half time lead and coasted to an easy 42-14 victory.
A different story tonight at Nash Central Hertford County for the second Friday night in a row traveled to Nash County and again tonight they jump out to a double digit lead but unlike last Friday night when Rocky Mount came from behind to win Nash Central can't and they lost to HC 13-8.
Northern Nash was able to even their record at 2-2 as they traveled to Winterville and are 17-14 winners over the Falcons.
Rocky Mount Academy continues to stay in football games as tonight they lose at Parrett Academy 30-20.
As expected Tarboro defense gets better when they play somebody not as big as them. They romped 49-0 over North Edgecombe.
