Crowded At The Top

Northern Nash scored once in the first on a wild pitch and twice in the seventh on a pair of walks, a throwing error trying to complete a double play and a hit but three runs were not enough as Rocky Mount pushed across runs four straight innings.  They took the lead in the second scoring twice, added four in third and single runs in the fourth and fifth in beating Northern Nash 8-3.  The victory puts the Gryphons in a three way tie at the top of the standings in Big East baseball with Fike and Hunt all at 3-2.

Southern fails to join the top losing to Nash Central by a score of 9-0.  Three are at the top and three are now tied at the bottom with 2-3 records.  Northern  Nash, Nash Central and Southern Nash are all are even as starting Friday the league starts the second go round with one game separating all six team.

Northern scored in the first getting a single from Dwight Daniels and a double from Tyler Barrett.  Daniels scored on a wild pitch.  Jake Philbeck led off the Gryphon second with a single followed by a walk.  Will Hedgepeth  doubled home the two base runners to give the Gryphons the 2-1 lead which they never gave up.

Tyler Barrett collected his second hit of the night for the Knights in the third  but by this time David Harrison  was in the middle of a four and two thirds inning groove giving up only two hits while striking out eight.

The Gryphons opened up the gap with four in the third with three straight hits by Logan Pearce, David Harrison and Jake Philbeck's single.  Forest Bell 's double brought home two more runs.  Two base on balls and a Harrison single produced the Gryphon's seventh run.  A walk, a Jarmar Ellis single and a Spencer Ramsey fielders choice got run eight across the plate.

David Harrison gave way to Forest Bell with two outs in the sixth and seventh inning  and Northern's two runs crossed on four base on balls and a throwing error. Rocky Mount wins their fifth in a row 8-3 over Northern Nash.

Jake Philbeck two hits and a RBI, David Harrison two hits and a RBI, Logan Pearce two hits.  Forest Bell a double two RBI, Will  Hedgepeth a double two RBI.  Zack Keeter and Jamar Ellis had singles. Northern was led by Tyler Barrett with two hits and Devin Davenport, Dwight Daniels and Joshua Daniels all had singles for Northern.

Rocky Mount starts the second cycle around the conference play hosting Nash Central Friday night while Northern plays Hunt.
