We will find out right away whether the Big East log jam all year was because the teams were really good or really average. Northern will play South Brunswick who's record is 2-20. Northern is home Tuesday night.
Hunt the Big East Number two is at home Tuesday night hosting Southern Wayne 7-17. Fike as the last team from the Big East travels C B Aycock in the first round.
The softball brackets are also out and the top seeded team Southern Nash is hosting Richlands. Fike will host Eastern Wayne and Hunt travels to CB Aycock.
Four teams from the Big East made the soccer playoffs and the number four team from the Big East Northern Nash will travel to once beaten Chapel Hill. Rocky Mount is in as a number three and they have a trip to Triton. Hunt who seems to have made every playoff in every sport host Western Alamance and Fike the Big East top team host Richlands.
I understand how the state is fielding the playoff brackets. How does a 2-20 team even make the playoffs when the likes of a Nash central or Rocky Mount who both won half their conference games sit home. This happens when these mix 4/A/3A leagues play as one conference and the lesser sized school like South Brunswick doesn't beat any 4-A team in their league.
Coach Billy Godwin at ECU has been under fire this season as the Pirates are hanging by a finger nail at 28-21 and 13-11 in their last year in Conference USA. Tonight Godwin got more bad news when his ace pitcher Jeff Hoffman will under go Tommy John Surgery and as a junior is expected to be a high pick in the upcoming Major League draft.
Rocky Mount Coleman Pitt Post 58 American Legion baseball will be holding try outs for it's Senior Legion team (age eligible if born on or before 1/1/95 on Saturday May 17th 2014. The tryout will be at 2:00 pm and will take place at the old RMHS Gryphon Stadium field which is located at 805 Howell street in Rocky Mount. It will be a pro style tryout. Players should bring their own bats, gloves, etc, and is a catcher he should bring his own catching gear.
Post 58. Will not be fielding a Junior Legion team this year.
