Gryphons Back In The Race

Last week in the Baseball tournament in Wilson  Gryphon pitcher David Harrison has a one hitter with 11 strikeouts which was the first time this year that Harrison  had pitched any where close to the way he pitched last season.

Tonight Harrison carries a perfect game into the seventh inning when the opposing pitcher Jaclynn Melton hit a grounder in the hole at short stop and Gryphon Short stop Logan Pearce who already had saved the perfect game with a rifle throw in the hole during the 5th inning of a runner could not get the ball to first before the runner beat out the first hit of the night.  Two outs later a second infield hit produced runners on second and third but Harrison struck out his 12th Golden Demon of the night to end any Fike threat.

Melton held his own on the mound himself as he walked two runners in the first but the only other Gryphon to reached base didn't occur until Josh Pittman singled in the third.  Will Hedgepeth singled in the fifth and became only the second Gryphon to reach second base.  The Gryphon DH Spencer Ramsey singled, reach second on a fielders choice but ended the inning still on second.

Now the bottom of the 7th. Two quick outs and Will Hedgepeth collects his second hit of the night.  Jamar Ellis followed with a single to right center and Hedgepeth never slacked up once he reached second and Fike's center fielders throw would have had Hedgepeth at third but the throw was airmailed out of play Hedgepeth scores the winning run given one base on the out of play throw.

The Gryphons win their first conference game and stand 1-2 but it is their third win in a row.  Fike drops to 1-2.  Rocky Mount heads to Southern Nash Friday night.

Northern Nash scores twice in the bottom of the seventh and beat Nash Central 4-3.  Knights now 2-1 Bulldogs 1-2.
