Fighting Words

The Last game of the regular season in Volleyball when Rocky Mount travels to Northern Nash both teams will be playing in a cancer benefit for the Susan G Koman Foundation.  That is plenty of reason in itself to come out and support the efforts of these two teams.

The Rocky Mount Telegrams story on Tuesday's win by the Lady Gryphons over Northern at Rocky Mount has the Gryphons up in arms after the comments by Northern Coach Pat Haggerty.  Talk about bulletin board material but I think every volleyball player at Rocky Mount has a copy of those comments today and October 6th can't get here fast enough for them.

Coaches have to do what they think is best to get the best out of their players.  Coach Haggerty was stressing to her team that you must get off the bus ready to play.  She thought they didn't give their best effort from the beginning and they paid for it with a defeat. Rocky Mount's players have taken it personal about her comments.  Northern  will need their best effort from the first point tonight as Northern Plays Hunt.

The upset of the year occurred Tuesday when Fike beat Hunt which was Hunt's second conference  loss of the season.  The loser of the Hunt-Northern game is out of any talk of being regular season champs. Rocky Mount now two games ahead of the field  host Nash Central tonight.

Just about every team in the conference is bigger than Rocky Mount but they rely on quickness and of course they have Tia Hudgins.  Hudgins at only five feet seven inches can jump and has this ability to anticipate where and when she needs to jump to block the other teams shots.  When her teammates feed her setups like they did Tuesday against Northern she is deadly on kills. I have not seen any player in the Big East that is close to her ability.  If there is one thing Rocky Mount needs is a healthy Tia Hudgins.

Also today Nash Central comes to Rocky Mount and the Price twins will be on display.  Like Tia Hudgins, Randi and Kaley are by far the best player in the Big East in Tennis.  It is hard to beat any team when they can count on three points before the games begin. If Randi wins her point playing at #1 and Kaley wins hers at #2 and they team up to win a doubles point Nash Central has a big advantage before any one else plays.  If you are in to tennis and appreciate what good tennis players can do watching these two girls is worth and hour and half of your time.
