Sports Is Not Worth A Life Long Injury

The second time this fall a Nash County athlete has an injury. Colt Brake a player for Rocky Mount Academy broke at least one vertebrate in his neck Friday night during an Academy game and is in Pitt hospital. I enjoy watching our children play and I know parents watch their children live sports for them but when something like this happens it makes you access the importance of sports.

I hope you all will pray with me for a recovery for this young man.

Monday night at 5.00pm what will be essentially be the battle for first place in Big East soccer will take place at Hunt as Hunt who is undefeated in conference play tangles with Rocky Mount. A Gryphon's victory and there is a dead tie for first place with less than two weeks to go in the regular season. A victory by Hunt and they have a cake walk to first. To say the least this is a monster of a game. Rocky Mount has two losses on the season and Hunt has bitten defeat just once.

In sports when one team start heading up someone has to go down. The past seven years or so Rocky Mount football has been as good as any in the state. During that time Northern Nash football was probably the worse in their history.

Northern has turned the corner and Rocky Mount has too and Northern has play makers which they haven't had enough of in the past seven years and now Rocky Mount doesn't have a play maker. I need to ask Charles Alston about this. Has there ever been a Rocky Mount -Northern game with both teams with a chance to win the championship by winning that last game?

The Big East Volleyball Tournament starts Monday at Hunt. Northern Nash and Southern Nash play game one and Nash Central and Fike play game two. Rocky Mount waits for the Northern- Southern winner at 5.00pm Tuesday at Hunt. Hunt gets the Nash Central-Fike winner in the second game Tuesday. The championship match is Thursday night.

Despite the world being turned upside down in Chapel hill you have to give Butch Davis his due. The Tar Heel victory over Clemson gives the Heels their third win in five tries. Boy, if Davis gets this team to over 500 for the season the Management at UNC will really be in a pickle over whether to fire Davis.

You know the cheating part probably goes on everywhere to some extent but hiring a coach with a back ground in agent activity? If you notice the NCAA is on a band wagon after schools with agent activity and that latest report from Yahoo claims Alston received benefits even last year which if that is true UNC will lose last years wins.

In Raleigh N C State continues to surprise and if you have tickets and don't want them for Saturday give me a call. Dowdy-Ficklin Stadium should be in a different stratosphere this weekend.
