Modern Perception Is Now

Growing up we had a telephone in the center of the house and when it rang it would ring at least four times before you could get to it.  Today everyone has a cell phone and are ready to talk now.

We use to have an antenna outside near where the TV was and could only get three channels.  If the wind blew the antenna any at all you would have to go outside and twist the pole the antenna was on until the signal came back clear.  Today we have 300 channels at our disposal and I don't understand why I can't find anything any good to watch.

We live a life style that we want everything in life now, can't wait  any longer.  This has brought us up to the point where we have to have an opinion on everything and of course our opinion is right and will never change.  Howard Cosell was the first of the opinionated commentators that when he said it now it had be be fact.

During the Major League playoffs back in the 70's with my friend Jim Hunter pitching against Kansas City.  Hunter was the pitcher the day that George Britt hit three home runs in a playoff game.  As Britt was rounding the bases  and Kansas City leading after Britt hit his third homer in the 5th inning Cozell  berated  the manager which I think was Billy Martin for letting Hunter continue to pitch.  By the 8th inning when Hunter finally was taken out leading 7-3 Cozell was a different person.  "This is one of the greatest gutsiest pitching performances of all time".

That was more than 30 years ago and now with all of these instance communication devices we all have access to our daily lives are now "in the instance".  What happens this second is life.Whether it is sports or our daily lives  our lives change on a daily basis so to think that what is fact today will change this afternoon.

Sports fans wonder why we can't be ahead by thirty in the first half.  He is a bum of a coach and will never win with him.  We have become such a impatient people that we are not willing to accept  anything but greatness from other people.  Our true lives we are only average at who we are.  Our hero's we expect them to be perfect all the time.

Those that show patients can help with  greatness.  If Duke had not waited coach Krzyzewski would never have become Coach K.  Bill Bellichek would be some defensive back coach in high school.  We all need our coffee hot right now.  We all want what we want right now.  If we would all put the cell phones down and take the I-Pod out of our ears there is a lot to enjoy about life by waiting and let what ever happens develop.

Today Tim Tebow is the greatest thing since sliced bread.  Just 10 weeks ago he was a bum.  By this time next year he could be only a memory.  We need to enjoy life more.  We are so wrapped up with what is happening now that we lose sight of what is around us.

Life is very enjoyable if we would only take time to notice.
