Good Way To Finish Up

A game that has no meaning what so ever in the final standings for Coleman Pitt Post 58 has turn into a game that tells you exactly why I have liked this bunch this season.  This games was suppose to be played at Holly Springs High but was switched to Cardinal Gibbons but the field was unplayable due to this week's thunder boomers.  So CP 58 finally found through GPS Athens Drive High school and they brought their bats with them tonight.

It was imperative to try to get this one at least through five innings to make it an official game before dark.  Coleman Pitt started Tarboro's Trey Wells who got through the first three innings.  His teammates did him a favor and put nine runs on the board.  While Cary scored three times.  Next to the hill was Rocky Mount's Will Hedgepeth.  If there was any concern before the night started was where were the arms coming from to get Rocky Mount through nine innings if this one got that far.  Seldom used on the mound Hedgepeth got two innings and Faith Christian's Luke Mills the next two.

This is all the pitching needed this night as Coleman Pitt put up nine more runs from the fourth through seventh and Coleman Pitt puts the mercy rule on Cary and no worry about darkness.  Coleman Pitt 16 Cary 5.  Ricky Mount pounded out 20 hits a season high and the highlite hit of the night was Northern's Tyler Barrett's home run.

Just last night this team took a shellacking from Garner losing two games by a 16-1 total.  There was no side effects or carry over in a negative way as Coleman Pitt finishes the regular season 8-6 and and 5-3 in division play.

Cary and Durham will play each other as they will battle for fourth place and the winner will then start a three of five series against Garner the top seed and that series will begin Friday night.  Also Friday night Apex will host Rocky Mount in the 2/3 matchup in a five game series.
