If there has been one theme from the Bulldogs of Nash Central ever since they walked off the field at Hunt two weeks ago was we want to come back. They will get their wish. Zach Conner kicked a field goal early in the fourth quarter and the defense makes that kick stand up as the Bulldogs out last Gray's Creek 24-21 in the opening round of the State 3-AA playoffs.
Would the Bulldogs get their wish? If they won tonight and Hunt was a winner it would happen next week and it will. It may have been uninspiring but the Warriors beat West Brunswick 21-13 to move on to round two where they will take on the only other Big East survivor. I don't put much in to the scores of first round games as long as the team that was suppose to win does so. Hunt will host Nash Central next Friday night.
The Big East #3 seed Fike traveled to West Carteret and the Golden Demons didn't have a very fun trip to the beach. The Patriots ripped Fike 33-14. The news was even worse for the #4 seed Firebirds of Southern Nash as they will find the trip back up I-95 will not be pleasant as they also get bombed 42-13.
Earlier this year when North Edgecombe played Northampton East the Warriors doubled the score at 52-26 and this time it was a lot worse than that as they advance to round two with a 50-6 over the Rams.
SouthWest Edgecombe's game with Kinston was postponed until 6.pm Saturday night and Tarboro's attempt to make it to the 2-A State Championship game four years in a row was put off until 7pm Saturday.
Saturday several runners from the area will be competing in the State Cross Country championships in Kernersville.
There is a football game at noon Saturday between two teams that hope if they don't win again this year that they do tomorrow.
