The Saga Of the Renegades

We left you yesterday with the understanding that the 13 and under team from Rocky Mount the Renegades that are in Cooperstown New York playing in this week's tournament there and they were  scheduled to play Monday night  in the wee hours of the morning after  the  all day rains in New York.

Just before midnight Monday  they made it on the field and were ahead 3-2 when play was finally stopped for more rain.  They were sent to their hotel and told to be ready to play at 8.30 Tuesday  morning.  When they left the field  they were ahead 3-2 and secured victory with a 11-3 win.

So that win this Tuesday  finished what they should have played Monday so they still had two games to play Tuesday. Their first game was scheduled for 1.30 but with all the rain was pushed to 8.30pm and they won that game 18-0  That's not all folks.  Their second game Tuesday was scheduled for 7.30, that  game  did not start until 12.30am.    This morning that game was halted at 2.30am because of fog.  They will try to finish it at 9.30 this morning.  The way this tournament has gone with all the delays it may snow tonight.

This reminds me of the Andy Griffith Show where Opie wants  to sleep on an ironing board and when Andy ask him what in the world he wants to sleep on an ironing board for?  Opie's reply is adventure sleeping Pa.  This to me sounds like adventure baseball with all these wild hours they are having to play because of rain.

The Lady Gryphon Volley ball team started out their season Tuesday meeting state power  South Central. The Lady Falcons won 3-1 by scores of 25-15, 21-25, 25-19 and 25-13.  About midway the fourth game Central started to take control of what had been a very competitive first three games. The Ladies are  home Wednesday against SoutWest Edgecombe.  Girls Tennis beat Edenton 6-3 to open up their 2011-2012 season.

I hope you have signed up to get all your favorite Gryphons sports scores as they happen.  We received ours seconds after each game in volleyball.  If you haven't signed up yet go to scoretrax.com and fill out all the Gryphon  sports  that you want to keep up with as it happens.

Tuesday for the first time the Chicago Bears and the Washington Redskins listed their depth charts and we get a chance to see the progress of Travis Cobb in his fight to make the Chicago Bears and Shaun Draughn in his effort to make the Washington Redskins.

Travis is not listed anywhere on the four deep depth chart of the Bears either on offense or special teams.  This does not bode well that he is not listed  as the top four flanker, wide receiver of kick return specialist.  Shaun Draughn is listed as the Redskins 4th running back which sounds better that what Travis seems to be right now.  The Redskins list two positions at running back which would list Shaun as 7th or 8th at this point and that far down will probably not make the team so both of our locals players trying to make it in the NFL need to make some impressions or it is cut city.
