Basketball Is Off and Running

The boys varsity basketball season got underway this weekend and Rocky Mount has taken home the championship in the Knightdale Tipoff Classic.

Friday saw the Gryphons eek out a 86-85 victory over East Chapel Hill. Saturday night the Gryphons found themselves matched up with conference rival Fike who had beaten the host school Knightdale by five on Friday. The Gryphons win the championship with a 20 point victory over the Golden Demons.

The girls lost a heart breaker on Friday losing 38-37 to Wake Forest Rolesville but was able to take third place in the tournament winning by four over the host Knightdale High.

Brain game: I was home Saturday morning and saw the Rocky Mount team crush it's two opponents on the WRAL-TV show " The Brain Game".

I sure do miss Mark Roberts host of the Brain Game on WRAL with the traffic reports week day mornings.

Did you see where Kendall Noble former Gryphon football player was named second team all MEAC in football?

Now that Thanksgiving is gone I wore Christmas red to church yesterday. It had nothing to do with N C State beating Carolina on Saturday.

Congratulations to the E C U Pirates finally beating Southern Mississippi. What better time than to clinch their division and in doing so get to host the conference championship Saturday. GO Pirates
