Weather Plays Havoc

We have almost Played the first week of high school baseball.  There will be some action Saturday but here is what we have in the books thus far.

Northern Nash 1-0 beat Roanoke Rapids 5-4 in extra innings. They were down late 4-1 but got the game tied.  They play at South Johnston Monday.

Southern Nash 2-0.  Todd Brewer had the Firebirds playing competitive last year and they are off to a nice start winning 17-12 over SouthWest Edgecombe and 7-6 in eight innings over East Wake.  Play Southern Wayne 4pm Saturday.

Nash Central. 1-1 lost 4-3 at North Johnston and beat Smithfield Selma 8-1.  The Bulldogs  play at Eastern Wayne 1 pm Saturday.

Rocky Mount 1-1 lost at Bunn 10-3 snd beat Knightdale 9-3.  Play at Tarboro Tuesday afternoon.

The Battling Bishops are 11-5 so far this season and are 3-1 in Conference.  They play at home Saturday afternoon at one and Sunday afternoon at two against conference foe William Peace who they beat Friday 8-4

Update on conference USA South progress in the NCAA D3 basketball tournament.  Covenant who won the tournament in Rocky Mount last weekend and won the automatic bid to the tournament.  LaGrange who upset the Battling  Bishops last week in the semi finals but lost to Covenant in the championship game got the second invite thus eliminating the Battling Bishops from any
consideration to the NCAA.

Friday in the opening round of the D3 NCAA Birmingham Southern knocked off LaGrange 93-88.  Covenant playing their first NCAA game ever found themselves playing the host team Emory and Covenant got smoked 76-51.  Both USA South teams are out after the opening games.
