If that be the case and Carolina actually was sugar coating the NCAA smiling and saying one thing while not really digging into any investigation then they fired the wrong guy. Dick Baddour is the lead investigator Then he should have gotten the axe and Butch Davis stay at least until football season is over.
All of the damage as long as it looked like football was the problem then let football handle the situation. Then when all of a sudden the academic world of UNC is thrown in to a bad light and the Chancellor must now put out fires relating to the University and no longer a football issue then it's time to step in.
Let's face it just looking at Holden Thorp he has the look of academia written all over him. I don't know whether you know this or not but his father is from Rocky Mount. Thorp just has that look of he doesn't even know where Kenan Stadium is.
If you ask the question why the timing I think the answer is simple. Behind the scene talks with the NCAA the upper management at Carolina is probably realizing that what they told the NCAA and what is coming out of the woodwork now is not jiving. That's bad for Carolina and any penalties forth coming from the NCAA. One of the consistency's of the NCAA is that they come down hard on those who lie. Misrepresenting or misleading is all a form of lying.
The NCAA really doesn't do much of sending investigators into a situation and digging up graves looking for evidence. They rely on the institutions to do that and tell them what they found. Carolina gave them what they said they found and that was it. Then Pack Pride comes up with evidence that Carolina really didn't do much investigating which in the eyes of the NCAA is either covering up or lying.
There is a point when all Carolina people have to be honest with themselves. Holden Thorp did the right thing. His timing may a been a year late but I think he has not been any part of the investigation until recently. He has relied on Dick Baddour to keep the football side honest and recently that has proven to put a bad light on the University.
Unless there is evidence that Holden Thorp also knew of the cover up those who want Thorp's head had better realize that the University of North Carolina is far more important to the people
