Another Major Lost

There was a time while walking on a golf course Tiger Woods was so focused that he thought he was the only person on the course.  Other than a tipping of the cap after a finished hole Tiger Woods never high fived  any fan standing along the roped off area leading to the next hole.  The interview room he had that Donald Trump scowl.  He never smiled that was the secret that Tiger had.  That was his M O.

He  intimidated other players and if you were in his group and up and comer player but on this day you were probably going to have one of your worse rounds.  He was the Dale Earnhardt of the PGA Tour.  He intimidated everyone because his play was beyond what anyone else could do for four rounds.

His life was private and whatever he did off the course nobody knew good or bad.  Then one night his whole life turned around.  A fire Hydrant on his property and a golf club attack by his wife and that private world was exposed.  Now we all found out our hero was flawed just like all of us.  Did it really matter that Tiger was not the saint we all thought we was?  No not really.  Tiger lost that invincibility with the other players.

Where he was always three shots better than everyone else in most times it was in the heads of the players he was playing against.  No longer did they respect how good he was, they all felt like now I am as good as he is.  Age has had something to do with it but mostly other players now don't shutter when they see their name in the same group with Tiger.

Now back in the pack with the other players and his private life shattered and exposed Tiger decided to drop his caddy, change coaches and he decided the best way to handle the public was to become the nice Tiger.  Now in the interview room he smiles and tries to be funny.  He high fives fans in the walkways.  All of this is not the Tiger who dominated golf.

If you look at any player who is great in any sport they some where along the way lost something in the process of life because in order to be great their sport was their life.  Whenever they have tried  to integrate something else in with their sport they could not continue to do the things in their sport to keep them great.

Tiger's greatness in golf came because he committed his life to his sport.  Anything outside of golf was hidden from everyone.  Now that his private life is shattered Tiger is trying to be one of the guys.  He has never been one of the guys and most on tour accepts him as one of the guys.  Tiger has a fight going on within his mind.  He has never been this nice funny Tiger that he is trying to become.  It is effecting his golf game.  He still thinks he's the golfer  Tiger of 2005.  I doubt whether there will ever be a day where Tiger finds that happy medium where the new nice Tiger will find that dominating Tiger on the golf course.  I hope he finds life is not to bad being part of a real world.
