Computers Are Changing The world

My only son Brooks ran cross country during the fall in high school because his mother would not let him play football. He was a baseball players so cross country kept him in shape for spring time. He didn’t want to run cross country but he knew he had to, to play baseball.

Two weeks into training he loved running. He graduated Rocky Mount High in 2000 and went off to yell for the Wolfpack. He joined a mountain bike team at State and rode all over the South on weekends racing.

He graduated as a scientist from N C State in 2004 and hit the job market being a contractor for NOAA. He has spent the last six plus years protecting the fishing industry by riding on fishing boats from Massachusetts to Texas. His free time he has spent running and biking and a hobby has become his passion. He loves to coach others. This fall and winter he helped Coach Dee Davis with Cross Country and indoor track whenever he has been home.

During his time since college he has been working toward becoming an Olympic training coach. He has been off to New York to get certified to be able to coach Olympic athletes. Wednesday Brooks was notified by the U S Olympic team that he is now one of three coaches in the country that can work with long distance runners.

What does that mean? We live in a different world today from what us old fogies who didn’t have a bathroom in our house growing up know. This approval to coach Olympic Athletes brings to him two hopeful runners wanting to make the Olympics. He will help train them but at this late date we are probably talking about the 2016 Olympics.

Brooks this summer will probably go into the full time business of training athletes but in the mean time will he have to move to Colorado Springs to the Olympic training center? No,Why Not? This modern world we live in called the computer. His two athletes can train where ever they want to. Brooks will install a device that looks like a watch and when the runners get through with their workout they send the info to Brook’s computer and he will analyze the data and make suggestion on what the readout says.

He will periodically have to go to the Olympic training facility in Colorado Springs but he can pretty much live anywhere he wants. Whenever there is a big race in this world that his runners are in he will go there to be with them.

If you noticed in the paper on Monday in the court news there was a corporation incorporated in Nash County last week called All Out Multi Sport. That’s Brooks going in the coaching business.

I bet that you didn’t know that there are more Triathletes in the Triangle area than any other area in the country. Wilson also is home to one of the biggest bike clubs in North Carolina. If you happen to ride down any road in Eastern North Carolina you just might see bike riders with flags flying who are part of that club.

You see all the time advertisements about work at home on your computer. I in my wildest dreams never thought of such a thing. If you have any interest in training whether to stay in shape or to be a world class runner you can now get that done right here in Rocky Mount. Just call Brooks Doughtie U S A Olympic Coach!
