Injuries Can Make Teams Or Break Them

So far this basketball season both North Carolina and N C State have identical records of 11-4 and 1-0 in conference play. This is the first full week that Tracy Smith has been in the lineup for State.

State fans are hopeful to find lightning in a bottle like the 1983 team did with Derrick Whittenburg's return. What happened to State in 83 was those who filled his shoes while he was out still contributed when he came back and Whit came quickly back to his old form.

If yesterday is any indication State has found a combination of Smith and Leslie to be on the floor at the same time and bringing Harrow off the bench. Having the right combinations of players is more important than having great talent.

That is what I think Carolina still lacks is the right combinations. State has gone through this for years now having eight minutes in every game where they could not get the ball in the hole. Last and now this year Carolina is the same their combination is guard play, not being able to get the ball to the right player when they are ready to score.

There has been many complaints about the NFC West being the worse division in football. Yesterday while having the worse record ever by an NFL team in the playoffs the Seattle Seahawks won. If you remember last year the NFC West ( Arizona)put up 51 points on the Green Bay Packers and opened up with a win. This is two years in a row that the NFC West has won a playoff game and put up 41 and 51 points. They don't look too bad to me.

Today Baltimore and Kansas City square off at 1.00pm and the night cap for the NFL today is Green Bay at Philadelphia. That last game is maybe the most intriguing game of the first weekend. Green Bay is my pick for the Superbowl from the NFC. Michael Vick despite all that he has gone through the last three or four years is still must see TV.
