The Big East Baseball Tournament came down to the last night when the number one seed and the number two seed made it to the final game. Earlier in the day the first few teams were sent possible seedings for next weeks tournament and Northern will host South Brunswick and Hunt will host Northwood. Both will get home games. These brackets are released for everyone to view to make sure that everyone's records are correct. If no one hollers on Sunday because there is a mistake these two will get home games on Tuesday. Fike will be on the road that has not been released yet as to where they will play. Nash Central sits still on the edge of their seats holding out hope they will make it.
Now knowing that both will be having home games both Leonard Allen of Northern and Jonathan Smith of a Hunt both chose to sit their best pitchers. All during the season Northern has relied on their pitching and Hunt has been about the best hitting team in the league all year. Tonight Hunt collects ten while Northern only has three hitters to get hits but two of them get two hits and they get five on the night. Adding to the Northern problem they commit four errors and pitching walks eight.
Hunt started their relief pitcher Joel Taylor and he gave them four innings giving up only four hits but he was very workman like. striking out only one and not a batter walked. Caleb Sharp pitched the final two innings giving up one hit and no walks.
Bryson Worrell had four hits to lead the Hunt hitters. Andrew Brinson, Colton Griffin, Greg Lamm, Ty Keen and one hit and Hunter Hackett had two. Hunter Moore and Chad Haggerty collect two hits each for Northern while the lone fifth hit came from Jacob Green. Chad Nelms started for the Knights he gave way for Tyler Barrett an Chad Green pitched the last two.
Hunt scores in every inning but the second and win in six 13-1. Hunt's victory gave Hunt High a trophy in all three of the major sports as they won in football and basketball and now share a tournament championship in Baseball.
Northern comes off a bad week having elected not to pitch their best on Monday and lost in being no hit by Fike. Beat Nash Central by getting only three hits Thursday and now Mercy ruled by Hunt. Northern truly needs to play games that have a consequence where they have to put their best on the mound. That happens Tuesday when the playoffs start.
