Two Not Enough

Tonight on the campus of the new Rocky Mount High School soccer and baseball played their first ever playoff games on the new campus and both teams scored twice but neither scored enough to win.

Soccer went to overtime in a 2-2 game only to see Conley get a penalty kick in overtime to take a 3-2 lead.  Soccer plays overtime the entire length of time but the Lady Gryphons lose in the second round after they were never able to score again to tie.

Across campus shoddy defense lead to an unearned run for West Carteret in the first, they scored again in the second  and that held up until Rocky Mount plated two runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game only to see the Patriots score twice in the top of the seventh to win it 4-2.

Rocky Mount could get but five hits but missed chance after chance of scoring but could not.  Andy Morris lead off the bottom of the first with a double off the left field wall.  Ben Yates trying to sacrifice laid down a bunt that went for a hit and by the end of the game the Gryphons would only get three more hits.

Jeremy Johnson kept the Gryphons in the game on the mound but never pitched with the lead giving up seven hits, four base on balls and struck out eight.  the Gryphons had two errors on the night.  Cody Dakin went the distance for WC striking out only two , he walked three and two errors help in Rocky Mount's two runs scoring.

West Carteret will now make a second round playoff trip to Currituck who beat Fike 3-2.  Rocky Mount finishes the baseball season 12-9 while WC ups their record to 15-7.

Conference softball Nash central was a winner 9-1 while Northern Lost 8-0
