Newton Looks Like He Has Right Stuff.

Peyton Manning's rookie season in the NFL the Colts threw him into the deep end of the pool and said swim or tread water until you learn to swim.  Manning survived to be one of the best quarterbacks in the history of the NFL.  Faced with similar circumstances the Carolina Panthers have tossed Cam Newton into the deep end.

He has had moments of brilliance and then several moments of a rookie being sucked in by the defense.  I don't think that the Panthers in their wildest dreams thought he would look this good in one game all year much less have  two very decent games the first two of his career.

Let's not get carried away and think he is on the way to stardom just yet but who would have thought he at any time this year would come close to his first two games.  The Panthers are 0-2 but Jacksonville is heading to Charlotte Sunday.

UNC has made public their recommendation to the NCAA that they  will forfeit all wins in 2008 and 2009.  UNC has made  several other moves  to self impose on themselves hoping the NCAA will not add to their pain when UNC meets with the NCAA in late October.  Including all the forfeits Butch Davis coaching record at Carolina is officially 12-23.

The ACC is one step ahead of the rest of the college football world in announcing Pitt ans Syracuse can come into the ACC.  Their first year will probably be 2014.  Should Connecticut or say Rutgers join then the ACC could still go to the pod system.  I think Connecticut is a no brainer if this world of 16 teams is the way of the world.  However the 16th team could really be a mad fight.  Louisville, West Virginia, who knows where all this is leading.

If the ACC gets their 16 teams and Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State join the Pac 16 where is the SEC going to get a 16 team conference from.  The ACC being one step ahead of the SEC has really changed the playing field in college football.

Monday  started the Big East soccer season and Rocky Mount beat Nash Central 4-1 to win their conference opener.  Lee Mcavoy  scored twice and Paul Lilley and Chris Jacobs put shots in the net.You can see that game Sunday night on the Stretchlon Sports show on WHIG-TV.

Tuesday there is a hugh volley ball game at Rocky Mount as Northern Nash needs to win to keep their hopes alive that they can unseat Rocky Mount from the throne in Volleyball.  Nash Central derailed Northern last week and Tuesday is a must for Northern  if they want to win the regular season.
