Third Time Is No Charm

Rocky Mount Lady Gryphon Volleyball tried to beat Hunt for the third time this season but not tonight on Hunt's home Gym. The last time Rocky Mount played at Hunt just a couple weeks back they lost the first two games only to come back and win in five games.

The ladies tried the same trick tonight losing the first two games 25-13 and 25-15. Finally game three was a Gryphon victory but game four went extra and Hunt out scores the Gryphons 27-25. This is the second year in a row that Rocky Mount swept Hunt during the regular season only to lose the tournament championship to the Lady Warriors.

Rocky Mount heads into the high school playoffs and if they win they will for sure have two home games and there would be a good chance a third but the Lady Gryphons have never advanced past the second round in their history. Heading into the playoffs the Gryphons will carry a 19-5 record and open playoff play Tuesday.

The jv football team hosted Hunt and lost 20-8. Varsity plays at Hunt Friday night at 7.30.

Wednesday the Cross Country teams finished second in their conference run held at Nash Central. The boys only trailed Nash Central while the girls followed Fike.

The conference tennis tournament earlier this week four Lady Gryphons qualified for the regionals. The doubles teams of Lindsey Thomas and Caroline Bell and Caroline Nelson and Elizabeth Thompson will play in the regional Next Friday.

Tonight in girls volleyball Northern Nash and Nash Central who tied for 3rd during the regular season and since both lost in the semifinals they had a playoff game tonight preceding the championship match and Northern wins 3rd seed beat the Lady Bulldogs in four games.

Now for Friday Night football

Rocky Mount heads to Hunt looking for anyone who can make a big play. Hunt's lone loss this year was that last second loss to Southwest Edgecombe and the Gryphons find another tough night. Hunt 28 -Rocky Mount 6

Nash Central plays Fike and after beating Rocky Mount for the first time ever could be tied for first with a victory. The Bulldogs bark against the Golden Demons Nash Central 34 -Fike 14

Southern heads to Northern and this could be interesting. Northern defending the home turf needs a victory after faltering at Hunt but Southern holds on to the ball and wins Southern Nash 28- Northern Nash 16

The game of the night in the area is Kinston at Tarboro. I correctly picked Kinston over SWE a couple of weeks ago and and I think Kinston does it again. Kinston 26 - Tarboro 20

After missing two of three last week I am now 20-8 on the season.
