I was watching the Detroit game when Calvin Johnson made the catch in the end zone for the so called winning catch and said out loud that is not a catch according to the rules. There are dumb rules and that is one. Why if the ground can't cause a fumble should a receiver have to hold on to the ball all the way to the ground? Johnson took two steps before hitting the ground.
The Cowboys and Panthers both played yesterday like they have played during the preseason. It seems to me teams have it wrong in the way the use the preseason. I would play my first team one quarter in game one, to the half in game two. Get the starters out after three quarters in game three and they go all the way in game four. Then during week one they are have already play one full game.
NFL teams now play the starters a couple of series the first game. The first quarter in the second all the way to the half in game three. Hardly any starters play in game four so no one has played into shape that they need to be in for game one. In the case of Dallas and Carolina their offenses sputtered in preseason and sputtered Sunday. There is an old saying about play like you practice and they did.
San Diego doesn't even play til tonight and they are already in first place since they haven't lost yet.
San Francisco was a major disapointment. The Redskins won but the offense didn't score a touchdown so I don't think any body can say one way or the other whether Donavan McNabb was a good trade or not. Indy's defense looked old but Peyton still got 450 yards for the offense. Indy may need 40 points this year to win any games. If I am to judge from the first game Brett Farve will never finish the season.
Houston won which I suspected, New England looked good the first half but I need a couple more weeks to judge them. Seattle looked like Super Bowl contenders but I doubt that. Pittsburgh was hoping to win two while Big Ben is out. They got one yesterday. They are half way there to where they want to be after four games.
Tonight Ravens-Jets and Chargers- Chiefs I wish the first game was at six so the Charger game was at 9.00. 10:30 is killing me.
