Big East Football Shining Again ?

We have almost finish the non conference portion of the high school football schedule if you look at the early returns it looks like somebody from the Big East is going to play for the Eastern final football championship again this year.  Hunt, Nash Central and Southern Nash are all 4-0.  Rocky Mount is a step behind at 3-0-1.  Northern Nash and Fike have both gotten wins so far in non conference play but can we really make head and tails of what has happened in the league so far?

Hunt is off to an impressive start but their four victims so far this year have a combined record of 2-13.  So can we really say at this point that Hunt looks as if they are going to repeat as conference champs?  Have they played a strong enough non conference schedule to prepare them for conference play?

Nash Central is scorching their foes to the tune of 45 points a game.  Their scheduled opponents have a combined record of 5-10.  We must ask the same question are they ready for Big East play?  Most every school plays the same non conference schedule every year.  If a team is down this year it is not Nash Centrals's fault.  Does it help them get ready for conference if their non conference games are blow outs?

Southern Nash is also 4-0 so far and look a here.  Their scheduled non conference teams are just 4-10.  You do have to consider that the Big three in the conference have put four losses each to every one they have played but even then they still have losing records.

Rocky Mount the surprise most improved team this year their teams are only 4-9-1 overall.  This brings up the question has anybody with the impressive records really beaten any body so far.  All of the unbeatens have a combined 19-0-1 record but other than Nash Central's win over Tarboro who has anybody beaten?

Looking even deeper Northern Nash is 1-2 so far and their scheduled three teams are a combined 6-5.  Does that tell you any thing?  Northern has only allowed 30 points in three games and regardless of  being high powered or not they will be hard to score on.

Even Fike who stands at 1-3 their foes are 9-6 on the year.  So here we go again.  Is Fike all that bad even though their record is 1-3?  Probably not!

So I must ask the question, have we caught a year when all of the conference heavy weights are playing non conference teams that are all down and out?  Do the undefeated teams have to worry about Northern and Fike when they play either because they are battle tested more than the others?  Could be, I really don't think anybody is going undefeated through conference play and there  is a good chance that every body will win at least one.  If that happens two losses might tie for first and if that happens there might be a three way tie at the top.  Then the luck of the draw just might be the answer of who gets the home games and the easiest road the the Eastern Finals.
