Apathy Can Be A Cancer

Coleman Pitt Post 58 has advanced to the second round of the Area one playoffs by never setting foot on the diamond.  The reason the Post 24 team from New Bern disgusted at how poorly their season had gone  and just enough of their players stayed home you need eight to start a game that there was no need to make the trip to Rocky Mount twice.

Our society these days has so much pulling and tugging at our young men.  The beach, a holiday weekend maybe even other teams to play for that were more successful than what Post 24 had been.  I think we all knew that after Sunday night's game was forfeited that there was very little chance of there being a game Monday night.

If New Bern had of been able to muster enough players to put a team on the field  the score would probably been an  embarrassment for  them  and would have never given Post 58 more than what they could get in practicing among themselves.

When teams reach the point of where  they think there is no hope there probably isn't.  David had to think he could beat Goliath or he never could have had the nerve to throw the stone.  I don't  think New Bern didn't have the nerve they just didn't care any more.  When you lose that desire in your heart you have lost what ever goal you were shooting for.  That is not only on the ball field but in every day life.

Coleman Pitt Post 58 has advanced to the second round but they face a hot good team in Wayne County.  We needed to play New Bern Monday just so our pitchers could throw one inning to try to get some of the cobwebs off their arms.  Our hitters needed to get their eyes back focused on pitch  and count and the groove in their swings.  CP 58's defense has been outstanding  in the games when there was something to play for.  They too  as fielders it will be just like the first game of the season needing to get sharp against a team that is playing on all cylinders.

Post 58 these are obstacles  but not a road block.  They must use the apathy one team had and use it as a positive and look at this vacation as rest for the still possible 13 games left before they can possibly make it to the State Tournament.  They need to think we are 2-0 in the playoffs and heading into the second round and we have the home field advantage.  Bring them On!
