Is Todd Gurley's College Career Over?

Saturday during the Georgia-Auburn football game Todd Gurley started around left end and during a cut his knee buckled  and Georgia has announce that his season is over after tearing his ACL.  Gurley a junior and to say the least this has been a rough year for Gurley who over five weeks ago was the leading candidate for the Heisman Trophy until the NCAA sat him down for collecting about three thousand dollars for signing his name.

The former Tarboro Viking more than likely will go in the NFL draft as a junior but this injury may pull him down as one of the top picks in the draft.  The question will Todd return to play college football now?

Former Northern Nash basketball player Alexus Hill began her division one  basketball playing career coming off the bench for Gardner Webb Saturday and scored  10 points which was the third leading scorer for Webb.  Unfortunately GW was in Bloomington Indiana playing IU and got rolled 114-58.  Hill played 25 minutes.  That is really good news playing so many minutes early as Alexus must really be making an impression with their coaches.

Two games into her college basketball career Carmen Richardson has score 12 points in Queens College first two basketball games.  The former Gryphon had hoped to be teammates with former Gryphon Tia Hudgins  but Hudgins basketball career is over from health issues keeping her off the court.

Tashaun Mabry the former Gryphon now a senior at Tarleton State is averaging 13.5 points per game after two games in Texas. Mabry was the MVP of the 2010 Gryphon State Championship team.  Spent three year in Junior College and one year had to sit out after a knee injury.  His last two seasons have been at Tarleton.

Cardinal Gibbons won the men's soccer state championship on Saturday which gives them every state championship in every sport played in the fall except football.  They lost in the first round getting knocked out last week.  There are just too many advantages that a private school has that allows them to dominate sports.  It is simply unfair that they are not limited on the area that kids have to come from in order to play sports for them.

High school basketball season gets under way in the area Wednesday as Rocky Mount host Rose and SouthWest Edgecombe visits Nash Central.  Thursday Northern swings into action as Henry Drake will coach his first varsity game as Northern host East Wake.

N C State's win on Saturday against Wake Forest makes them Bowl eligible.  They join Duke who lost for the second time all year but are already over the six win plateau.  Carolina will be trying Thursday or two Saturdays from now to get win number six.  They play Duke at Duke Thursday and State in Chapel Hill Thanksgiving Saturday to get their sixth win or more.
