The State high school playoffs start Monday night in the form of high school tournaments. Monday belong to the boys so it is the last chance for Fike to make their season last longer as the last place team in the conference. Their only way in, win the tournament and that is a tall order for they will have to beat Nash Central Monday then face the team playing on their home court and Rocky Mount Wednesday. Should they still be alive come Friday more than likely they would get the regular season champions Hunt but it could be Northern Nash who has beaten Fike twice or Southern Nash. I don't remember any last place team in local high schools that pulled of that miracle. The second game Monday is Northern Nash and Southern Nash.
Tuesday belongs to the ladies and Nash Central has the same scenario as Fike boys. They must win the tournament in order to play next week in the sectionals. Fike takes on Nash Central and Hunt plays the nightcap Tuesday against Southern Nash.
The top two seeded boys team get into the fray Wednesday as Hunt the #1 seed plays the Northern-Southern winner and home team Rocky Mount the #2 seed meets the Fike -Nash Central winner.
We swing back to girls action on Thursday as the #1 seed Rocky Mount meets the Tuesday winner between Hunt- Southern Nash. Northern Nash the co champs of the league will be seeded #2 meet the Nash Central -Fike winner.
All Wednesday and Thursday winners play for all the marbles Friday night. The top four seeds in the league pretty much are assured a sectional berth and the #5 seed has to hope for a invite as one of the best of the rest. There is one little piece of business that will be clarified by the tournament. The #1 seed for the sectionals for the girls will be determined by the winner of the Conference Tournament as long as either Rocky Mount or Northern win. If both don't get past Thursday I don't know how they will pick the seeding. If one loses Thursday and the other loses in the finals the one that makes it to the finals will be the #1 seed.
NC State whipped up big time on Wake Forest today. There is at least one team in the league that they are better than. Duke has maintained the conference lead by handling Miami tonight. Carolina won by two yesterday and I don't care whether they played bad or not they won. I think that shows you the Carolina progress this year. There have been many games this year when they played the way they played yesterday they lost the game.
