Pearce Shines On The Mound

Rising senior at UNC Pembroke  and former Nash Central Bulldog Alex Pearce may have a new role next year for the Indians.  Pearce who has spent his first three years behind the plate as a catcher may find himself on the mound pitching this upcoming spring.

Pearce pitched game three of the UNCP Black and Gold World Series, that's the end of fall ball for the Indians.  Alex pitched a complete game shutout over the Gold team allowing just two hits walked three and had four K's.

Pearce who was Mr Everything for Nash Central playing shortstop, Pitcher and catcher may find himself on the mound in certain games and behind the plate in others.

Duke University starts the ACC soccer Tournament in Cary tonight.  Former Gryphon Andrew Morales is finishing up his freshman year for the 10-6-2 Blue Devils who finished third in the ACC.  Morales scored one goal during the regular season and had four assists for the Devils.  He also played the second most minutes of any player on the Duke squad.

Hunt and Fike will square off in the third round of the State Soccer playoffs.  The winner meets the winner of the Jacksonville-Currituck match Saturday.

Friday schools are out around the area for Veterans Day.  If you have off and want to watch The Lady Gryphons and others in a basketball jamboree they will be playing in the Gym at Rocky Mount most of the day Friday.  Saturday the boys will be hosting a jamboree.  Hard to believe that basketball starts in a couple of weeks.

Two Big East teams matchup Friday night at Hunt as #1 seed Hunt host Nash Central.  This second round matchup insures the Big East and the old NEW conference seven straight years of having a team in the third round of the playoffs.  If Hunt wins they would host the Cardinal Gibbons/Triton winner in the third round while if Nash Central wins they on the road to either of the winners.
