Who Are Those Guys?

Butch Cassidy asked Sundance "Who are those guys?" referring to Joe Leflores  and his band of sheriffs chasing after Butch and Sundance for their never give up chasing the those famous outlaws.  Today that same question just might be floating around Union City Tennessee as Nash County has brought the bats to the Southeast Regional Babe Ruth 13U tournament.

Last night in their second game of the day Nash County outscored Glen Allen Virginia 13-11 to go 2-0 in pool play.  This morning playing their third game in less than 26 hours Nash County took no prisoners in beating Gaffney SC 26-6 to stand 3-0 in the American Bracket.  53 runs in three games.  What is even more amazing is that the Champs of Eastern North Carolina have given up 30 runs in three games and are undefeated.

They will play their final pool play game Saturday morning at 9am against Lexington Tn who at this writing was the only other team in the American Bracket still undefeated but they stand at 1-0.  They are playing Glen Allen Virginia Friday night and if they win that game then the 9am Saturday will probably be for the #1 seed in Sunday's semi final single elimination tournament. Should Nash County finish 1st or 2nd  both the semi finals and finals will be played Sunday.   Lexington has another game Saturday afternoon to finish off their four games.

Moving on UP.... Hobbs Johnson has been promoted from the rookie league in Helena Montana to the upper A team of the Milwaukee Brewers in Appleton Wisc.  As soon as he shows up the Brewers waste little time in deciding whether they are going to pitch him or not.  He pitched 2 innings Thursday night what has now become his routine as it surly seems he is destined to be a middle relief pitched.

Not a bad outing at all as he gave up two hits but struck out four batters and did not allow a run.  In his five professional outings in the minor leagues Rocky Mount Gryphon and North Carolina Tar Heel pitcher has pitched 10 innings and given up one run that is an ERA of .90.  Since it is now so late in the baseball season look for Hobbs to start next spring at AA.
