Decisions- Decisions-Decisions

Rocky Mount heads into Thursday night's Senior night which up to now is the most important game of the year in baseball with Northern Nash.  It will be for the second spot in the Big East behind Hunt who has yet to lose this conference season.  Hunt can clinch first if they beat Fike Thursday night.

Starting Thursday Rocky Mount has four games to  play in the next seven days. Northern Thursday, Hunt Saturday, Fike Monday and the first round playoff game next Thursday somewhere.  It could be home or away depending on whether they can grab second with these last three conference games.

I think we all agree when Benton Moss pitches Rocky Mount has a really good chance of winning.  When he doesn't there chances go down  to maybe 50/50.

The way I see it there is only one option for Thursday night, Benton Pitches.  If the Gryphons win they would only need one victory or one more loss by Northern to clinch second.  Northern Plays Nash Central Monday at Nash Central and the Bulldogs already have beaten the Knights in Death Valley.  If Moss pitches Thursday he is off the mound against Hunt Saturday.  That really puts Rocky Mount in a must win Thursday.  Hunt scored 14 on the Gryphons last time  when RM used the rest of the staff.

A victory Thursday  gives Rocky Mount breathing room where Saturday is not must win.  A loss Thursday and look out Saturday will be a must win and even Fike Monday is a got to have win and then hope Nash Central beats Northern.

Let's see what other complications in life there could be.  Suppose the Gryphons need a victory Monday to clinch second would you come back with Moss on Monday for say three innings and hope the offense can score runs like they did last night and once the game is under control save him for Thursday's playoff game.

It would make life a whole lot easier if come Monday second is in the bag and Moss is saved for a complete game if needed in the opening round of the playoffs.

Let's see if we can really get your mind spinning.  Is there any way that maybe Moss pitches say three innings against Northern and three against Hunt?  The first time we played both they both scored almost in every inning.  Hunt scored 14 and Northern seven but neither Hunt nor Northern stopped the Gryphon bats completely as the Gryphons scored seven on Hunt but probably should have had at least 11.  Rocky Mount score six at Northern.  I don't care what level you play if you score six runs in a game you ought to win the game.

If somehow Rocky Mount could win against Northern and Hunt then Monday could be a pitch the staff day.  The safe bet for Kent Cox is pitch Moss Thursday and get all you can get from him.  If Northern beats him then you did all you could do and prepare for a road game in the first round of the playoffs.

Isn't sports fun with all the what ifs.
