Rocky Mount And The ACC

Watching South Carolina win the baseball national championship and practically every time that Whit Merrifield batted getting to see his dad Bill on camera rooting for his son got me to thinking.

Rocky Mount and the ACC go hand in hand. Several times in the last ten days of watching the College World Series they either talked about or had the graphic on screen of Bill Merrifield being the two time ACC baseball player of the year.

Danny Talbott back in the 60's won the ACC player of the year in both football and Baseball and Phil Ford is listed on the top 50 basketball players of all time in the ACC.

I sure would love to go the the ACC record books and see if any high school in the country has had the impact on the ACC like Rocky Mount High. I am sure there are plenty with RMHS ranking near the top.

Today starts the I want you to come play for me parade for LaBron James. I sure will be glad when all this hub-bub is over. If I were a betting man and I am Labron stays in Cleveland. I suspect Dwayne Wade stays in Miami. The only player of the big three to move will be Chris Bosh. He is in Toronto, this is his chance to leave. I wonder if he goes to Cleveland with James.

If LaBron stays where does this put the New York Knicks? Two years now they have openly said they wanted James. Looks as if they will land only after thought players.

My favorite player on the Carolina Hurricanes called it quits yesterday. Faced with moving to another team Rod Brind'Amour to finish out his career, Roddy chose to work in the office of the Hurricanes. I hate it when athletes hang on too long. I know it is hard for an athlete who has excelled for his whole life to realize that his playing days are over.

The Hurricanes when you compare them to the glitze franchises can't pay the salaries that others do. How many players once they leave and go some where else want to come back? I think the Hurricanes with Jim Rutherford as GM are one of the top franchises in all of sports.
