Girls tennis Fourth round is Tuesday at 4.00pm at Sunset Park. Fike and Rocky Mount with the winner playing for the eastern championship. Both teams split during the regular season, winning on the others court.

All I Can tell you right now is soccer plays Wednesday against C B Aycock the number two in their conference. So this is a tough match to start the playoffs with the the Gryphon Boys.

Called Dan Richwalski this morning to reserve space in the Northern Nash press box for Friday night's broadcast of the football game. Things have really changed for the better since Dan has been the AD for the Knights. There is no longer the atmosphere of us against the world that seemed to be in the air with the previous administration.

Dan has been a pleasure to work with any time I have been at Northern where it was for covering the Gryphons or for the Stretchlon Sports show. He acts as if he really wants you to be able to do your job. I say thank you to him for that.

Just three weeks ago we were not sure whether this game with Northern Friday night would have any value for either team. Rocky Mount and Northern both on two game winning streaks and Rocky Mount can still win second out right. Northern not only can get a playoff birth with a win, but can still tie for second place.

ECU host Virginia Tech on Thursday night ESPN game this week. Everyone with Gryphon connections that can get to the game, this is as close to home as Stephan Virgil can possibly get back to near Rocky Mount.

Tonight I will finish up with this: The football team had a come from behind victory over Southern Nash Friday night in which they scored in the last two minutes to win. In B W Holt's 71 victories can you tell me how many happened in the last two minutes? The Answer ZERO. There was the one against Western Alamance which we took the lead only to have them score as the game ended to win.

The only late victory by Holt in his tenure at Rocky Mount was the overtime game against New Bern in 2004. The Gryphons had the lead only to have the Bears tie the game and send it to overtime.

New Bern scored first to make it 35-28 and then there was that two point conversion to win by Rocky Mount.
