There are three states that play American Legion Baseball that still goes nine innings per game and North Carolina is still one of them. It is time to go to seven innings. Let the next step for a Legion player either college or pro baseball be the nine inning step.
Legion baseball needs to make decisions about how many teams you can play on at one time but is trying for an all star team playing for another team? Let's remember when Brian Goodwin was a high school senior he made this Under Armour team and played at Dodger Stadium in an all star game. Is that playing for another team playing in an all star game?
Legion baseball is being attacked by Select teams, travel teams and the only people benefitting from these teams are the people running the teams that have brain washed parents into thinking your son will be scouted by giving us a couple thousand dollars to be on the team and let's go to tournaments all over the country on weekends and your son will pitch one inning.
Legion has to make up their mind they are either going to do the things to survive all the attacks even coming from high school coaches that want to coach their players all summer in scholastic leagues. Just think of the clothes pin company who thought we will need clothes pins and in the 1950 electric dryers put every clothes pin makers out of business but one and then try to find a clothes pin in a store.
Legion has to update and modernize the game instead this is the way we have done it since 1926 when Legion Baseball started. There has to be changes or Legion is going to become a clothes pin.
Monday Afternoon the state Legion schedule was changes again. Wilmington played Wayne County and Wilmington knocked Wayne County back to Wayne County winning 5-3. The schedule change was since Gaston County was unbeaten why make them play at 12:30 against Shelby so the 12:30 game was scratched and Wilmington will play Shelby at 8:30 tonight. The winner will play Gaston 12:30 on Tuesday having to beat Gaston twice Tuesday. Have you got all of that.
Tuesday the Babe Ruth 14U team leaves for Newton NC where they will take part in the opening ceremonies Tuesday night and there will be picnic including players and families afterwards. Nash County will begin play in the SouthEast Regional pool play Wednesday night when they take on Key West Fl. At 8pm. They will be in the American League bracket and in order to advance must finish either first or second in their bracket. The top two from the American Bracket will play the top two from the National bracket once pool play is completed.
