It's All Set Northern Nash Rocky Mount Winner Take all

Tuesday was Senior day at Rocky Mount as four Senior Players played in their last regular season Volleyball game at home.  Tia Hudgins, Precious White, Samantha Westphal and Emily Jacobs.  This being the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month the Lady Gryphons came out sporting their Pink Spandex shorts and black Jerseys with Pink Numbers.

Whether it was the new uniforms or  what the Lady Gryphons played the way they have played most of the season Tuesday and took Southern Nash out in three straight games.  They played athletic volleyball which is when they are at their best.  Last week in losses to Hunt and Fike they played flat footed and when they do that they take away the advantage they have over every team in the Big East speed and athleticism.

Their victory and Northern Nash's 3-0 victory over Fike set up the final regular season finish at Northern Thursday night with the winner getting the #1 seed in next weeks tournament here in Rocky Mount.  Northern can finished no worse than tied for second with a loss Thursday and they would get second in the tournament since they beat Hunt twice.  Should Rocky Mount lose Thursday that would put them in a tie with Hunt and depending on the tie breaker they could fall to third place.  If that should happen there would be no home playoff game this year.

News and notes from Monday's football games:  Nash Central missed John Stanley more than I thought they would.  Without Stanley Jalen Hendricks played quarterback and was only about 85%.  Trying to get over a sprained ankle is not easy with people hitting you all the time.  His ankle may take him longer to get well if he continues to play  and try to get well at the same time.

Nash Central's defense was not rock solid like I thought it would be without Stanley at outside Linebacker.  Rocky Mount  moved the ball on the Bulldogs but they put the ball on the ground too many times in the Red Zone.  You would think by game six they would know how to get the ball back to the back receiving the ball and catch it when it was a good snap.

Friday night Hunt will be solid  but not spectacular.  I don't know that the Gryphons will win but I do think it will go down to the wire.  The Gryphons played them pretty well last year.

Does anybody know who that mysterious voice is on the PA during the band's performance at half time so far this season for both home football games for the Gryphons?  Must be a Disc-Jockey from POWER 95.  Check out the voice Friday night and see who you think it is.
