Playoffs In Full Swing

Tuesday Night started the 3-A playoffs in  girls soccer and the Big East one and two had no problem in their opening round.  # 1 Hunt disposed of Havelock 4-1 while #2 Fike whipped Hertford County 8-0.  The Lady Gryphons who have been bitten by illness and injury all year traveled to Jacksonville White Oak to take it on the chin 8-2.  Northern Nash plays tonight at Union Pines.

The state singles and doubles championships are this weekend and the Big East and Nash County will be well represented.  Singles Turner Votipka of Nash Central will be in action against Kyle Johnson of Charlotte Catholic. Fike's Nick James will take on Paul Hogan of Hibriten.

Three doubles team from the Big East have made it to final 16.  Southern Nash has two doubles in action in Owen Fike-Adam Glover and they will be pitted against a team from Asheville.  Tim Lewandowski and Armondo Villareal of Southern take on a team from Forest view.  Northern Nash will be sending the duo of Bryson Williams and Jonah Richardson to meet a second team from Asheville.

Friday is the Track championships at NCA&T and several athletes and team events the three Nash County schools all have shots at winning different events both boys and girls with Rocky Mount and Nash Central boys all hoping for top five  in team scores.  In order for any team to make the top five you almost have to have a perfect day and get points in every event that you have an athlete or team qualified in.

Baseball playoffs begin for some Thursday night:  Rocky Mount the #2 from the Big East entertains Hertford County the #2 from the Northerasten/Coastal .  The winner of that game is paired for the next round with C B Aycock/West Carteret  Winner.  The RM/HC winner would travel to C B Aycock and they would host West Carteret should they upset Aycock next week.

Big East #1 Hunt host Washington who is the #5 from the Coastal.  Nash Central the Big East #3 travels  to Jacksonville who is the #2 from the Coastal.  Northern  Nash as the #4 from the Big East hits the road as they visit Southern Lee the #1 from the Cape Fear Valley.

The One Voice talent Show which  was put off a couple of weeks ago when Nash County Schools got out early one day due to tornado warnings will be held Friday night at the RMHS Auditorium.  It begins at 7.00pm and the $5 admission will go  to the Pediatric and Oncology Department at UNC Hospitals.  Gryphon Soccer player Holley Fryer spent time there last summer under going treatments and the show will be in her honor.
