Lady Gryphons Advance

Making  their  first appearance ever in the Holiday Invitational Tournament  the Lady Gryphons wanted their second game of the season go  better than the first  against a 4-A squad.  The Lady Gryphons opened the season the day after Thanksgiving and took a whomping from Millbrook 59-39.  Determined not to let that happen again J'Kyra Brown has shot the Lady Gryphons into the finals  of the 4-Team Girls bracket beating Holly Springs

The Lady Gryphons blew open a close first half as the Gryphons were only able to lead after Brown hit a three pointer to close out the first half 21-20.  The second half was all Gryphons as J'Kyra Brown poured in 15 points in the third quarter alone as the Gryphons outscored Hawks 21-10 to give them the breathing room. They didn't let up much in the fourth out scoring the Holly Springs Hawks 19-18.  J'Kyra Brown ended the day with 30 as the Gryphons down the Hawks 61-48.

The opening game of the 2011 HighSchoolOT.com Holiday Invitational Tournament got rolling at at Cary Academy as the host school took on cross town rivals Cary High school.  Cary trailed practically the entire way leading only twice.  The last was at 34-33 late in the third quarter and from that point on it was all CA blast the Lady Imps of Cary 65-39.  Cary could score by five points after they took the lead late in the fourth quarter.

Mickayla Sanders poured in 30 points for the Chargers and Brianna Powell added 21.  Two players Azura Stevens and Whitley Coleman score 18 each and 36 of the 39 points scored by Cary.

Rocky Mount moves on to the finals for the 4-Team Girls bracket and will face the home court team the Chargers of Cary Academy.  The Championship game will be played at 4PM Tuesday and that is the same time that the boys begin their play at Broughton Gym as they will be playing the host school Broughton High.  Lady Gryphons had plenty of support as the varsity boys had an early morning practice  and went as a team to support the Lady Gryphons.
