Gryphon Tennis Tops Fike

Past years this would be big news that Rocky Mount had beaten Fike in Tennis but Tuesday the Lady Gryphons Tennis teams disposed of Fike 8-1.  They are now 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the Big East.  Their loss was to Nash Central who by far and away is the top team in the league.

Soccer beat Webb on Monday 2-1 for their second win of the season.  They stand at 2-4-1 at this point which is a far cry from the past few seasons.  You have to remember soccer lost two of the greatest players ever in Matt Williams and Andrew Morales.  Speaking of Andrew he is of course a freshman playing for Duke this year and he has started all five of Dukes games getting two assists.  He has played more minutes than any other Blue Devil so far.  That must show you Andrews ability to make others around him better players has been noticed by Duke's coach John Kerr.  If you by chance catch Duke on TV Andrew wears #7.  So far Duke is only 1-4 on the season.

The Lady Gryphon volleyball team stands on top of the standings today as they knocked of Fike at home yesterday in three straight games.  This is the best they have played all year.  The reason they lead the league is Nash Central knocked off Northern Nash to give the Lady Knights their first loss in conference.  Rocky Mount has the southern part of their schedule for the rest of the week.  Today that are at Southern Vance and Thursday at Southern Nash.

Yesterday we compared all the Big East football teams at what they have done so far and what does it tell us to date.  This week Rocky Mount host Rose.  Rose will come in 2-2 after having lost to New Bern last week 44-41

Hunt will play host to Fike in a non conference game. We said yesterday that Hunt's non conference opponents were 2-13 over all while if you add Fike one and three record to it Hunt non conference sure has been easy.  The shoe on the other foot Fike can add Hunt's 4-0 record to it's schedule and they are 13-6.  The big question will that translate into conference wins for Fike or losses for Hunt?

Nash Central will get a test this week as they play New Bern.  New Bern is three and one.  Southern Nash meets South Granville who is 2-2.

Northern Nash already having played a schedule where the teams have a winning record still have Laney and Tarboro on the road.  Both of those teams are a combined 7-0 heading into Friday night.
