ACC Gets Five Regional Sites

The ACC got five host sites for the upcoming NCAA baseball regional which will begin Friday.  Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Clemson, Florida State and ACC Champion Virginia will all host three other teams.  Some regional start Friday while others wait until Saturday to begin.  The field of 64 will be announced Monday afternoon.

Rocky Mount Legion Post 58 gave up eight runs in the seventh inning tonight and lost in the Baseball Classic in Durham 10-7.  Whether you know this or not North Carolina is the only American Legion State that still plays nine innings.  Everyone else stops at seven innings.  This year's Legion teams has had decent starting pitching but has had trouble  in the 7th,8th and 9th innings of games.  Still trying to find what different players are capable of for Post 58 this season, Hank Jones is looking for someone to take Bill Clark's role the last two seasons of pitching if need be an inning of relief  every night and be a stopper.  Up until this point five games into the season scoring runs is not an issue.

We will continue looking at Nash County College players and how their seasons went.  Mike Williams had a 1-1 record and made fifteen pitching relief appearances  and his team Pitt C C won the region 10 championship.  They had to play a sub regional and lost out before qualifying for the JUCO Worlds series for the second year in a row.  Williams as a reliever had a 1.71 ERA.  Team mate Jim Leggett  pitch in four games this season at Pitt.

Alex Pearce hit just over a buck twenty this season but found himself as the starting catcher as the season rolled on.  The Braves just completed their greatest season ever losing in the playoffs to MT Olive.  His defense is a big part of their success.

Three players who I have never seen any stats on this year are Wake Tech's T J Taylor who I saw several times was the leading hitter for Tech in games.  Cameron Ramsey hurt his elbow early in the season and Gabe Brown both joined Taylor at T ech.  Both Ramsey and Brown are helping coach the Rocky Mount Junior Legion Team this summer.

Early in the season Senior Daniel Moore was struggling with the bat but by season end had his average up to 380.  Daniel had a solid career at NC Wesleyan.

Brian Allen after transferring to NCW two years ago had a solid season hitting 280.  He is helping Post 13 in Wilson this summer with Legion ball.  Little brother Brett had three hits on the season at Wesleyan.

Eric Mull didn't get a hit this year but got 1 rbi.  Chad Womble finished his college career with 0-3 record this season.  Edmond  Gravely  got two hits this season at Newberry College.

Andrew Webb took to the hill 12 times  as a pitcher for NCW and posted a 3-6 record.  His ERA was 3.88 which by today's aluminum bat standards was very good.  Collins Cuthrell started 41 of the 43 games he played in at Barton this season.  He hit 247 on the season.  He is joining Gabe Brown and Cameron Ramsey  coaching Junior Legion this summer.

We had to girls playing college softball as Ashley Bone appeared six times on the mound for UNC and even batted seven times.  Tiffany Macklin started all 42 games for NCA&T.

Some graduate and others will take their place.  If I have left any one out who played this year please let me know.  Two may get drafted while others will be back for their colleges in the spring.  Hope great success for each and every one.
