OH No Not Basketball TOO!

The North Carolina High school Athletic Association announced on Friday that they will seed the basketball playoffs in the Pod system just like football.  That means that we may have a first round say Southern Nash -Rocky Mount game or a second round Nash Central -Rocky Mount just like we had in football when the Big East top two teams met in the second round.  I know this is done with the idea of saving on travel but give me a break do we need the Big East basketball Tournament two weeks in a row?

Rocky Mount boys have clinched first place in the Big East with a 100-52 win at Fike.  They have earned the #1 seed in the Big East Tournament.  The girls were also winners and hold on to first with a game lead over Northern with two games to play and the season finale at Northern Looming.  Rocky Mount will observe senior night Tuesday night which will be the final regular season home game.

Tonight Northern Nash girls kept pace with Rocky Mount winning at Nash Central 52-34.  During the game there was moment  on the court where two players made head to head contact and Shakyra Mercer from Northern required a trip to the hospital.  The game was delayed more than an hour waiting on a rescue unit to get to the scene and transport her.

Saturday at Northern Nash it will be the first step for each individual wrestler as the conference championships will be held all day.  Depending on how well you finish within you weight class will determine  if you qualify for the Regional.  Action starts at 10am and will go on all day. The Big East sent several to the State Championships last year and a bad day on Saturday could end some of those guys getting back if they never get started.

Don't forget the Envy-us Step competition going on at Rocky Mount High School starting at 4pm Saturday.

Fruits From Winning

The past couple of years Southern Nash Football has had a lot  more W's than L's and even two years ago advanced to the Eastern Regional.  Four Southern Nash players have reaped the rewards of all that winning as on National Signing Day they inked their names to a contract to play football next season in college.

Josh Sessoms hopes to play in the North Carolina State defensive secondary.  This time of year you will find him on the basketball court as the leading scorer for the Firebirds basketball team.

Matt Boswell is heading to UNC Pembroke where he hopes to be a lead blocker like he has done for the top two rushers in Firebird history.

Speaking of the top Firebird rushers Tracy Coppedge has signed on at Elon.  Tracy hopes that he can turn some of his all time rushing yardage into Southern Conference rushing yards.

Terron Huffman will join Boswell at UNC Pembroke.  The Firebirds will be looking to replace their number two rusher as well next season.

In case you haven't heard Todd Gurley did send his letter of intent to Georgia breaking the hearts of many Tarboro Vikings fans who wanted him to stay in the state.

The Gryphons boys can clinch first with a win at Fike tonight. The Lady Gryphons must keep winning and hope Northern Stumbles before next Friday.  If they don't it is winner take all for the regular season title, top seed in conference tournament and a #1 seeding in sectionals.  The #2 seed will get at least one home game in the sectionals.

Nash Central is waiting for a life preserver on second place.  Regardless of what they do the rest of the way one Gryphon win and the best they can do is second.  They host Northern Nash Friday while Hunt is hosting Southern Nash.

The girls side of the ledger all that is known right now is Rocky Mount or Northern will finish 1st and second. We just don't know which one where.  The other four schools could still finish from third to last depending on how these last three games pan out.

Watched the Duke -Virginia Tech game and Duke looked like Duke is suppose to look.  Seth Greenberg is packing his bag as he will coach somewhere else next year.  You know I think N C State is the team that will replace VAT as the ACC bubble team holding their breath on Selection Sunday.  Half way they are 5-3 but upcoming in the next two weeks is Florida St, Carolina and Duke Back to back.
