Exams and Semester Break Over

Tonight Rocky Mount boys and girls remained unbeaten in conference play heading into a Tuesday night match up with Northern.  The girls will be playing for first place while the Gryphon boys hope to remain unbeaten against the Knights.

Injuries to both Carolina and State's shooting guards Thursday night raises big questions about both teams future play.  I don't think there is many Carolina fans happy where the team is right now but they still stand 15-3 which is nothing to sneeze at.  Friday night doctors still had not determined how severe Dexter Strickland's knee injury is and 24 hours later if they still don't know then it can't be all that good.

C J Williams shoulder injury for the Pack  is more day to day and Sunday's game at Miami he just might play and then again maybe not.  The Pack can not afford any front line player to miss time because this year when any player  has missed minutes the team has struggled. Both Strickland and Williams are their teams best defender away from the basket so any missed time will hurt both teams.

Sunday's pairing for the AFC and NFC Championship games  are a odd lot.  New England's defense looked like world beaters last week but you have to remember they played the worse passing offense in the league in Denver.  Over the years Baltimore has been one of those teams that has had the Patroits number.  Can baltimore score enough to win?  To me this game is a coin flip.  Any time it is a tossup I'll take the home team.  Pats 23-20

If last Sunday was the first time you have really paid any attention to the 49ers then you can be labeled  with that east Coast Bias.  These 49ers are good.  You know any time a player (Vernon Davis) comes off the field crying because  of the effort he gave you have to understand these players are all in to win.  I truly don't think Eli Manning can win for the Giants without help from the running game.  Niners 17-G-Men 13

Vandalism Strikes Again.

Just about the middle of the football season Tarboro High School was hit by vandals who  helped add another color to the side of the school and areas of the football field.  The vandals were caught and I expect in due time they will be handled by the authorities in the correct way.

This week Faith Christian School was attacked and four youths were caught on camera on school property,  It looks as if they did a job on the school from destroying the baseball field to wrecking the tractor as well as many other minor things.  We live in a society today that when we do wrong we are not punished  in the proper way for the extent of damage we do.  You can kill someone these days and only serve five years.

Having been one myself many years ago I understand that teenagers don't think like humans as of yet.  They don't see the value of life and in most cases their own life value. They think they will live forever.  Having one at home I know that anyone above the age of 25 are the dumbest people in the world.  No teenager has reached  that point in life where the rent has to be paid or where is the money for the next loaf of bread.  They think money grows on the tips of your fingers as they grab it out of you hand.

I must admit that I did one of those stupid  deals one Saturday night after I graduated high school.  I will not divulge any names to protect the guilty.  Dustin Hoffman said in the movie Little Big Man that this occurred during my drinking days.  My friend and I were out riding and drinking in about 1972 and it was midnight or later and we were in the middle of Bertie County.

It was pouring rain and my friend had handed the wheel to me  to drive his car  because he was having a hard time seeing the road.  At this point I could tell where  road ended and the ditch began.  We pulled up to a stop sign and my friend says to me. " I have always wanted a stop sign and I think that one there looks like mine".  He proceeded to get out of the car in the pouring rain and violently started twisting the road sign until he pull the entire pole and sign out of the ground.

He proceeded to roll the back window down and stick the pole across the car inside until the only thing sticking out of the car was the sign itself.  We continued to drive around before we went home that night with a state road sign sticking out his back window.  It took a few years before I realized how lucky we were that night that no one with a blue light notice us. I saw it in myself and understand that drinking and this is probably involved in this vandalism  do not go together with a human being  that has yet to fully grasp what life is really about.

So I understand how stupid teenagers can be with life and limb.  This might just be a drunken stupor.  A fun thing to do on a boring night.  Where teenagers fail  to think at that age is since this is a Christian School and since there is massive damage this could be construed as a hate crime and if so this could be a federal offense.

I understand as teenagers being on the wild side adds spice to life.  I think whenever they catch these four whoever they are need to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.  These unlucky souls need to be made an example of regardless of who they are and we will find out.

High school basketball tries to get back to Normal tonight as Hunt travels to Nash C  entral in the biggest game in the Big East.  Rocky Mount is at Southern Nash and Northern travels to Fike.  Next week it is back to two games a week.
