Four Weeks Until The Finish Line

Every team in the Big East played in the Golden Leaf Tournament last week.  Starting Tuesday two conference games per week for four weeks in a row will produce the end of the regular season.  Every conference game in a league when there is no dominant team  just one day can take the top to the bottom.  Let's check this upcoming week.

Southern Nash 2-0 9-5:  Last season they were the most improved team in the league and after the first two conference games they are the most improved team again.  Todd Brewer has the Firebird baseball program moving forward.  Tuesday Hunt 1-1 visits SN.  Wednesday they step out of conference at Smithfield Selma and they wait for the Gryphons 0-2 on Friday.

Fike 1-1 7-5:  The only other team with a winning overall record the Golden Demons  travel to Rocky Mount  0-2.   Their final game of the week is a visit by the Knights of Northern Nash 1-1.

Northern Nash 1-1 4-7:  This is not the overall record expected from the Knights but the only record that counts is the conference record  for the playoffs.  Northern host Nash Central 1-1 Tuesday. Friday a trip to Wilson to Fike 1-1.

Hunt 1-1 5-9:   Baseball season so far has been as well as other of the major sports at Hunt a down season.  Monday a visit to Wendell and Corinth Holders.  Tuesday at Southern Nash 2-0 and Friday at Nash Central 1-1.  Big week with three road games.

Nash Central  1-1 5-9:  The week for the Bulldogs starts Tuesday at Northern Nash 1-1. Road trip to Greenville Rose Wednesday and they end up hosting Hunt 1-1 Friday.  I don't care who you are those non conference games in the middle of a conference week will not have your best pitchers pitching.  You have to save them for conference games.

Rocky Mount 0-2 6-6:  Already at the bottom of the pile play the two teams with the best over all records so to say the least this is a big big week for the Gryphons.  Two wins and they are back in the race, two losses and they are out of the race.  Tuesday host Fike 1-1 and at Southern Nash Friday.

The Big East is not highly regarded so far on the state level.  Not one team is rated in top 25 in the near 100 3A teams.  Southern Nash 29th - Hunt  43th- Fike 48th- Rocky Mount 62nd- Nash Central and Northern Nash tied at 64th.  Hunt 5-9 ahead of Fike 7-5 surely strength of schedule a big factor in computer rankings.
