How Bout Those Seahawks

The NFL for the first time in the history of the league will have a team with a losing record in the playoffs. The worse thing about this whole mess is as a division winner Seattle will host a playoff game Saturday against the New Orleans Saints. If the NFL is lucky Seattle will be the worse in and first out of the playoffs.

The prime time game for next Saturday night will feature Peyton Manning against the New York Jets. Yesterday I was switching back and forth in the fourth quarter between the Chargers and Indy games. Philip River beat Peyton Manning for the NFL passing title by eight yards. Rivers finished with 4710 and Manning 4702. Rivers passed both Manning and Drew Brees on the last day to win title.

The Sunday games next week will start with the Baltimore Ravens traveling to the Kansas City Chiefs. I will say the final score of that game will be 13-10 as there will not be much scoring in that one. The final game of the Wild Card Weekend will have Green Bay going to Philadelphia.

Today is the anniversary of the longest run in NFL history. Tony Dorsett ran 99 yards on a dive play up the middle. The play was set up when Timmy Newsome from Ahoskie who fumbled a kickoff at the four yard line and rolled out of bounds at the one. Newsome to make up for his fumble did a pancake block as the fullback on the next play to spring Dorsett for the historic run.

Duke began conference play in ACC basketball last night winning by 11 in Cameron. If this is any indication Duke will not go undefeated in conference play. Carolina smashed St Francis in non conference action.

Tonight is the Orange Bowl from Miami. Virginia Tech is the last ACC team left in this bowl season and if they win the ACC will have a 5-3 mark in bowl games. Stanford will not go down easy tonight for the Hokies. This will probably be the last game for Stanford's coach Jim Harbaugh. With the beating Michigan took in their bowl game I suspect Harbaugh will be heading back to Michigan just as soon as Michigan fires Rich Rodriquez. Don't be surprise if that doesn't happen by say Wednesday.
