This And That

Todd Gurley Tarboro's senior Running back was voted the player of the game in Tarboro's win over Lincolnton in the 2-A Championship game. Gurley nursing a sprain ankle could only rush for 246 yards.  Imagine if he were healthy.

Tarboro as a team rushed for 353 yards.  They never touched the ball until 2.28 to play in the first quarter.

Tarboro's three straight titles have all come on different stadiums.  2009 in Chapel Hill.  Last year 2010 in Winston Salem and now in Raleigh.

Jeff Craddock has now got three championship on his resume' while assistant A B Whitley now has five. You know Whitley tried to coach at Northern Nash  and at Rocky Mount in the past three years but the coaches there didn't like his style.  I guess they don't like winning.

The Eastern Plains 2-A Conference was denied two State Championship yesterday as Kinston blew a second quarter 14-0 lead and lost to West Stokes 21-14.

Whether this makes them feel better or not the team that knocked Hunt out last week  Northern Guilford won the State title in 3-AA  beating Shelby Crest High 31-7.

Whether this makes them feel better or not but Jones County the team that knocked North Edgecombe out of the playoffs finished second losing to Murphy 21-6

The Garner Trojans tried to use the American Idle winner and a Garner High Senior Scotty McCreery as their good luck charm but it didn't work.  Scotty lead the team on the field when they charge into Grove Stadium aka B B And T Field  in Winston Salem.  I am impressed with Scotty and his family still trying to live a normal live despite is County music stardom that has come since Idle.

Thanks to Charles Alston for the e-mail with the Gryphon Basketball Stats from Friday's game at  Hertford County.  My Friday blog I went to bed before I ever got the score.  All I knew was the boys won.  They won 75-63 and are now 4-0.  They have won every game between 10 and 15 points and three have been on the road. Terrell Hilliard keeps playing like a player looking for a D-1  gig scoring 21 points.  Levon Brutus added 13.  Rocky Mount had eight  players that scored at least four points.

J'Kyra Brown scored more than HC in getting 32 while the Lady Bears could score but 28.  Tia Hudgins gave them a run for outscoring them as she added 20.  If you didn't hear the Lady Gryphons beat Hertford County 87-28.

Tonight on the Stretchlon Sports Show for the fourth straight year  we will have Coach Jeff Craddock and some of the coaches and players from the 2011 State 2-A State Championship football  team .  Show time is 8pm on WHIG.  Channel 17 on Suddenlink and World wide at WHIG-TV.Com.  Tell Your friends.
