He has three State Championships to his credit why not add an MVP of the North Carolina -South Carolina Shrine Bowl won by North Carolina 26-19. Tarboro's Todd Gurley scored twice in the second half to lead the way for the team from the North. Gurley who is now the top ranked player in North Carolina that has not made his college announcement will declare on January 3rd. Tarboro head coach Jeff Craddock was there to see Gurley in action in high school for the last time pending whether he plays in the East-West All Star game in July. Craddock was on the sidelines as a North Carolina assistant coach.
The Lady Gryphon basketball team opened the season in the Knightdale Tip-Off Tournament and ran into the tall trees of Millbrook. They could manage but 39 points on their way to a 20 point defeat. Whether it was a wake up call or maybe they have not played anyone one since with the lumber that Millbrook possessed but the Lady Gryphons are sawing through their competition since.
Their six game winning streak the Lady Gryphons have scored 433 points or 72.16 points per game. Their defense has been choking and they are yielding only thirty points a game. If you take away the 42 that they gave up against the defending State Champions South Central then the other five games their defense is holding the score to just 27. We will get to see if this trend continues as they face undefeated Northern Nash at 5.00pm Monday in the opening game of the Nash County Christmas Tournament.
Even though they are 6-1 too the boy Gryphons are taking a back seat the the Ladys during this run. The boys don't take their turn in the Nash County Christmas Tournament until Tuesday night at 7.30. The Tournament is a three day affair this year with three games Monday both girls games and only one boys game. Tuesday the consolation girls game and then the Gryphons take on the home standing Firebird of Southern Nash. Wednesday night will have three games the boys consolation and both championship games.
