If you went tonight to Nash Central hoping to see a clinic on how to play defense then you went to the wrong game. Nash Central beat Rocky Mount 6-5 and all eleven runs were unearned. Each team kept giving the other side another chance and when the smoke had cleared the Bulldogs did more with their opportunities than Rocky Mount did.
Tyler King went the distance on the mound for the Bulldogs and I do not keep up with the pitch count but surely he had over 100 pitches and the darker the sky got the cooler the temperatures fell. King walked only two batters but he had to keep pitching when he should have been out of the innings but five Bulldog errors kept King tossing another pitch to the plate.
Spenser Ramsey started for Rocky Mount but failed to get through the 3rd inning. Will Edwards took the Gryphons through the fifth but is hung with the loss after Rocky Mount put extra runners on base with errors. The Gryphons only had three but those help the Bulldogs score six times.Cody smith pitch the sixth inning for the Gryphons. Gryphon pitching did not walk a batter.
The Bulldogs were led by Khalil Macklin with a triple and single, Kyle Taylor a double and a single with an rbi, Garrison Vick a triple and Game winning rbi, Christian Perry a single, Tyler King a single and Davis Johnson a single. Sam Lilley led Rocky Mount with a hit and a double and two rbi. Trevor Hayworth a double and two rbi. Jeremy Johnson collect the only other hit.
Nash Central with two victories this week have played themselves into playoff contention while Rocky Mount was back into a virtual tie for third.
Up the hill at the softball field the Nash Central softball team beat Rocky Mount 11-6. This is one of the closes games the Gryphons have had with Nash central in quite a while.
