Northern Controls Southern

Boy, I would like to know why Southern on fourth and nine on their own 28 on the opening drive of the game went for it on fourth down. Did their Punter break his leg in warm ups? After scoring 67 points last week did they think they were invincible. What ever the reason Northern Nash came up with the stop and the momentum to carry them to a 21-7 victory over Southern Nash.

This is the most meaningful conference win for Northern in maybe five years. It thrust them back into the battle for the top spot in the conference. They may need help from someone else to beat Hunt but they are back in the picture. For Southern one weakness sprouted it's ugly face tonight and that was the lack of a passing game when someone controls the line of scrimmage other than the Firebirds.

Like they have done in most of their games, Rocky Mount played the part of the rabbit jumping out to a lead but by games end the turtle had taken control. In somewhat of a close score Hunt beats Rocky Mount 14-7. Once again Rocky Mount cannot make a big play in the second half.

I picked them fifth in the conference and after two games Nash Central has beaten probably the two worse teams and by doing so sit tied a top of the Big East standings with Hunt at 2-0. Everyone else has lost at least once. Fike is no problem for Central 35-16.

Tarboro has play well some games and then others didn't look good at all but to this point still unbeaten. Kinston upset SouthWest Edgecombe and turned around the next week and lost to Beddingfield. Which team for each would show up tonight and the answer is Tarboro. They spray purple all over the Vikings of Kinston 41-14.

SouthWest Edgecombe priming up for the big game with Tarboro routs North Pitt 40-6. Another game in the area of interest Roanoke Rapids best Bunn 49-21.

There are two games of major consequence next week SouthWest Edgecombe at Tarboro and Hunt at Southern Nash.

Can anybody remember the last time Rocky Mount played a home game. I think it was sometime last year. Homecoming is next week against Fike. It's the battle for last place.

Paul Andre told me tonight that RM-Fike was scheduled to be the game of the week but Jammin 99 will probably switch to SWE-Tarboro or Hunt at Southern Nash. Either would be good choices.

The Lady Gryphon Volleyball team found out today that they will not open the state playoffs until next Saturday at 7.00pm. That's nine days from their last game until the playoffs start and if they are lucky enough to continue they would play three games the following week. Nice job of scheduling NCHSAA.
